Chris 'no mates' Brown

Twenty months after Chris Brown assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna, he continues his reinvention, personal and professional.

Yesterday in New York, he attended the private launch of Swatch's New Gents Collection at Gansevoort Park Avenue, and then celebrated the 10th anniversary of BET’s famed video countdown show ‘106 & Park’ at Marquee.

Reports said Brown “stole the show” from fellow attendees Bow Wow, Trey Songz and Ja Rules. Brown also performed, spontaneously, launching into a cover of Kanye West’s ‘Runaway’.

Earlier in the day, Brown - whose current track ‘Deuces’ is all over the radio Stateside - appeared on Angie Martinez’s radio show. He explained why his planned tour with Usher didn’t materialise (“No beef. We both have two different promoters and I think they didn’t see eye to eye”).

He also noted that he has pared down his music biz circle following 'Rihannagate'. "I don't have friends in this industry. I have my people who've been with me through the bad times and the good times. Everybody else is just wallpaper."
