The Prodigy named greatest dance act of all time

The Prodigy have been named as the greatest dance act of all time.

The English trio came out trumps in a wide-ranging poll run by dance magazine Mixmag, beating off competition from Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers, who came second and third in the list respectively.

Faithless was named as the fourth greatest dance act of all time, whilst Deadmau5 completed the top five.

Elsewhere in the top twenty, Moby landed at No.10 whilst veterans Depeche Mode were named No.14.

Speaking about the band's new accolade, The Prodigy's Keith Flint said:

"To walk off a stage and feel like we smashed it - that's the reward for us, to see the crowd react and know we've done what we've come to do. But something like this is truly voted for by the people - and essentially we are nothing without them, so it feels awesome and really respectful."

Meanwhile, The Prodigy were announced late last year as one of the headliners of the 2012 Download Festival, due to the held at Donington in June.
