Taylor Swift has most downloads in record-breaking U.S. digital sales week

Country-pop beauty Taylor Swift leads the biggest week in the U.S. ever for download song sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Her latest single, 'I Knew You Were Trouble', shifted a phenomenal 582,000 copies and the total figure for the whole week was 55.74 million, which broke the previous record of 47.73 set back in 2008 for the week ending December 28.

Billboard.com reports that the surge in sales came largely from people redeeming music gift cards given as presents over the Christmas period. The second most downloaded track last week came from Psy with 'Gangnam Style', which sold 400,000 copies.

Meanwhile Swift, who has been making headlines as a result of her blossoming relationship with One Direction's Harry Styles, 'I Knew You Were Trouble' has moved up 1 position to No.6 on the UK Top 40 although the final position will be confirmed on January 6. Watch her music video for the single below:
