Muse's frontman: 'I didn't dream about being a rock star as a child'

Matt Bellamy, frontman for rock trio Muse, has admitted that he never aspired to be a rocker when he was younger.

Speaking to Britain's The Sun newspaper, the 'Uprising' hitmaker explained that his passion was always music but he expected to end up doing something in either the classical or jazz genres so his career path took a slightly different turn than he intended:

"When I was younger, my dream was always to be in music, but I didn’t have any dream to be a rock star. I wanted to be in a classical band or a jazz band…So when I started, I wanted to learn the jazz piano, or maybe the clarinet."

He also opened up about Muse's forthcoming UK arena shows and explained that their stage set up and performance will be "completely different" to anything fans have seen them do before:

"We've got a bunch of new songs to play and the show is going to be completely different to last time. This tour we're trying to reach out and be closer to the fans. I think the last tour we were a bit distant at times. This time we have got a bigger stage and the thrust to get out there, shake hands – and I might do some stagediving."

The band's short tour will kick off on May 22 with a show at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry and will end at the Manchester Etihad Stadium on June 1.
